The Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions participated in the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development, which took place from April 14 to 16, 2025, at the United Nations headquarters in Beirut. The forum was organized by ESCWA in collaboration with the League of Arab States and United Nations agencies operating in the region, under the patronage of Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun.
The Arab Forum for Sustainable Development 2025 comes at a crucial time. As the deadline for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 approaches, the Arab region faces multiple challenges, including ongoing conflicts, rising poverty rates, increasing levels of food insecurity, limited financial space, and the rapidly accelerating impacts of climate change. Despite these challenges, the forum was marked by a spirit of determination and optimism, embodying the essence of this year's theme.
The three-day forum, held under the slogan "Restoring Hope, Elevating Ambition," brought together representatives from Arab governments, civil society, academia, and the private sector to assess the progress made in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the region and to propose solutions to accelerate their implementation.
The forum addressed significant challenges in the areas of financial inclusion and development financing. It also evaluated the progress made in the Arab region on five key Sustainable Development Goals: good health and well-being, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, life below water, and partnerships for the goals. Participants discussed ways to return to the principle of inclusivity in social development to tackle the new dimensions of inequality, conflicts, and shrinking financial space.
This annual forum serves as the main regional mechanism for monitoring and reviewing the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, enhancing dialogue among policymakers, experts, and development partners. It concluded with key messages that will be presented at the upcoming high-level political forum in July, contributing from the Arab region to the global efforts to achieve sustainable development.
